Desmond Bowker is from the Raven Family and is currently working in woodcarving, painting, and fabric (button blankets). He uses traditional designs and has a love for Haida form lines. He worked with renowned Tsimshian artist Dempsey Bob, who taught him how to make tools, how to carve, but also the language of his people. Another great influence was Desmond’s work with Haida artist Ron Wilson.
Desmond was adopted by a non-First Nations family and later reunited with his birth mother. He has a BA of Arts from the University of Victoria and a Diploma in Handicapped Services from Camosun College. He works with autistic and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder affected children in a specialized school program.
